Toledo Lucas County Homelessness Board Point in Time (PIT) Count
👀HEY! Do you want to be involved in the PIT count?
The Point in Time (PIT) Count is a nationwide event! Every year, at the end of January, teams of volunteers go into the community to help identify our unhoused neighbors. The volunteers survey the people that they leave, provide resources, and offer emergency shelter. It provides a snapshot of our community's needs, which helps us shape local homeless services policies.
This year the event will be held on the evening of January 28th and from 10:00am to 4:00pm on January 29th across the community. We need you.
There are many ways to help!

Homelessness Services at a Crossroads: What Happens When Evidence and Policy Collide?
Housing First (HF) is increasingly at the center of national debate. The president’s executive order on homelessness, “Ending Crime and Disorder on American Streets,” calls for eliminating funding for Housing First and permanent housing programs, while expanding law enforcement and mandated treatment approaches. This policy direction stands in sharp contrast to two decades of research demonstrating the effectiveness of HF in reducing homelessness and improving outcomes. This presentation will explore: 1) the competing policy narratives shaping the national debate over Housing First; 2) the legal, ethical, and practical consequences of replacing housing solutions with enforcement-based approaches; and 3) lessons from communities that have successfully scaled Housing First system-wide.
Bloom & Buzz
Looking for a meaningful way to give back and connect with others who care about community?
Join us for Bloom & Buzz, a hands-on volunteer day at Toledo GROWs, an active urban farm supporting more than 110 community gardens across Northwest Ohio. This event is all about service, connection, and strengthening our local food system.
Volunteers will help with a variety of indoor and outdoor projects such as planting microgreens, working in the greenhouse, sorting seed packets, washing pots, mulching, and more. After the volunteer project, we’ll gather for a warm lunch and relaxed conversation.
Bloom & Buzz is hosted in partnership with The Matriots, a statewide organization working to advance women’s leadership and civic engagement across Ohio. It’s a welcoming way to make an immediate impact while meeting others who value healthy, resilient communities.
Free to attend. Food and drinks included. Space is limited.

“Beyond the Bridge: A Solution to Homelessness,” Film Screening
This event features a screening of critically acclaimed director Don Sawyer’s powerful new documentary, “Beyond the Bridge: A Solution to Homelessness,” examining the root causes of homelessness and exploring comprehensive solutions. Filmed over 40,000 miles, it captures insights from 12 cities and interviews with dozens of service providers and policymakers, all driven by one key question: “How can we solve homelessness in a comprehensive way?”
Check out this film as a primer for the Cannon Lecture on Tuesday, Jan. 27, at noon with Sam Tsemberis, Founder and CEO of Pathways Housing First Institute. Dr. Tsemberis will discuss how the president’s executive order on homelessness, “Ending Crime and Disorder on American Streets,” calls for eliminating funding for Housing First and permanent housing programs, while expanding law enforcement and mandated treatment approaches. This policy direction stands in sharp contrast to two decades of research demonstrating the effectiveness of HF in reducing homelessness and improving outcomes.
